I bought some games from Handango (Plumber and Sokaban) and used the creators recommended method of installation to put them on my BB. It was a .bat file that accessed the BB directly (through a command prompt window). The files installed properly.

When I try to use the Applications Loader to install other files, it wants to delete these games. The install directories are still on my computer and I haven't moved them from their original location. I had a similar problem with Documents To Go and the fix was to rename the .alx file to .old. I tried renaming these files and Applications Loader still wants to delete the games.

Does anyone know how I can stop Applications Loader from trying to delete the games?

Here is the non-technical version of how I understand it.

When we use Desktop Manager (.alx & .cod) or download OTA (.jad & .cod) to install applications, the device keeps a record of these applications "somewhere"... let's call it an App Index (this is made up). When you hook up the BB to Desktop Manager, DM reads this App Index and knows what has been installed on the phone, and how it was installed (DM or OTA). Whenever DM finds modules on the BB that are not listed on the App Index, it wants to delete them.

When applications are installed using batch files or JL Commander / Javaloader, DM does not recognize them as being installed via DM or OTA because the batch files and Javaloader do not write to this App Index.

My apologies for being non-technical, and I no doubt have some of the details incorrect but for the most part, this is what is happening and why.

No need to apologize. That was actually very informative.

I noticed something else that is strange. I checked the Applications list (under Options>Advanced>Applications) and it doesn't list those games installed through the batch files.

There has to be a way to fix this.

When I get home, I'm going to try to uninstall the games from my BB and see if I can load them using the DM.

Update:
I allowed Application Loader to delete the two programs, Plumber and Sokaban, when I ran it. I then tried to use Application Loader to install the files by using the "Add/Remove Applications" portion of Application Loader. I had to use the "Browse..." option to find the programs. It found the .alx files, but when I selected them, Applications Loader responded with "no additional applications designed for your device were found."

I searched the internet for a solution and all the sites said that I needed the current version of DM. I verified that I already had the current version. Also, I have successfully used DM to install other programs previously.

On a whim, I tried the "Update Applications" portion of Application Loader and... it found both of the programs automatically! No browsing to the directory to find it! I continued with the "update" and it successfully installed both programs. The programs are now on the Applications List on my BB and Applications Loader no longer tries to delete them.

So, if any of you are getting the "no additional applications..." message when trying to install applications, try using "Update Applications" instead of "Add/Remove Applications". I don't guarantee it will work, but it's worth a try.

Hi,
This is pretty informative !
one more question, im not very well versed with the .alx and .bat files so just want to be sure.
if i do not have an alx or cod file, the 'Add/remove Applications' tool will not be able to find the programs and i would rather have to use the 'update applications'. is that correct ?
