Default Bleeping 1720 Error! I've Tried Everything!

Please Login to Remove!

I've went through every procedure on these boards and other boards and no matter what I keep getting this bleeping error 1720. Is there any fail proof method for getting past this?

I've tried installing older versions, newer versions, installed all the windows installer updates, the 5.6 script, registered the dlls...

What happens is I install it and then I go to sync. Windows they says that it must configure settings then I get that dang pop up about an error 1720.

I'm dying here, is there anyone that can help me

Perhaps you are speaking of Desktop Manager? What PC OS are you using?

Is your BB on a corporate IT BES?

A bleeping 1720 error is a Windows Installer error - I presume you are trying to install Desktop Manager. What steps have you taken?

well you said you get installed, and you go to sync, then the error pops up. (first post above).

There very well could be an IT policy against.

There is no IT policy against it. I got a new Blackberry with new software and ever since then it has not worked.

Just did it again.. .it says synchronization process then Please wait while windows configures BlackBerry Software. Then

Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personanel or package vendor..

A script could not be run???

Do you have administrator privileges on your computer? You might want to contact your IT admins.

Well I install it as an Admin. Then I must login as a user to access it, for some reason when it syncs it's trying to install something. I can't do that as admin because it's not the account. Does that make sense?

Default Windows Installer error 1720... Can Anyone Solve it?

Hi,

I'm on a network so I login as Admin to install the software. Then I logout and login as my user. I load up the software and it begins synchronization. After a little bit it says windows is configuring.. then I get this error 1720 message. I've tried everything and can't get around it. Anyone no how I can bypass this? I've installed the windows 3.1 installer as well as done clean uninstalls, registered dlls etc.

We;re gonna keep this all in one thread, there is no reason to start a new one on the same issue.

I'm merging back to the old. It will bump up to the top of the list.

Well, consider that it could be something specific to your PC....

I did all the stuff in the KB articles too. Nada. I also reinstalled the MS Installer program: same result.

Then I checked msdn.microsoft.com (MS developers network). This is a MUCH more common problem than you might think: lots and lots of discussion on the subject, with lots and lots of programs refusing to install.

The thing that finally worked for me? I found a developer's blog where the programmer actually went into the software installation program (the .msi) to check out everything that was being called. He found that problem occurred when trying to access the script-run library, scrrun.dll.

His recommendation was to re-register it, by typing this from a command line:
regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll

WORKED FOR ME. I now have version 4.3.07 of the Desktop Manager up & running!
