Default How does the phone know it's holstered?

Please Login to Remove!

I have the 8100, anyone know exactly how the phone knows it's in the holster? I tried to configure the settings that were specific to being holstered and either I'm missing a setting, or my holster is mossing something the phone needs to know it's holstered (Like the little magnet in the holster of my 7250?)

Holsters that are made for the 8100 contain a magnet, while the phone contains a magnetic switch that is activated when placed into such a holster.

The one you linked to doesn't mention having the sleep function for the Pearl, so I'm sure it doesn't have it. Otherwise, they'd mention it.

Here's a link to the case I purchased. It clearly mentions the sleep function, and when you put the Pearl in the case in either direction, the Pearl's screen turns off. Take it out, the screen snaps on! Really nice feature that saves on batteries..;.

It costs $27, very nice leather and magnetic closure.

The description says:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are looking for a stylish and elegant case to carry and protect your phone, this is the case for you! Our NEW Two-Toned Horizontal Leather Case fits a naked Blackberry 8100 as well as one that is carried in a Super Slim Crystal Case, Rubberized Case, OR Premium Skin Case. With the unique elastic bands, this leather case can expand to fit your device - whichever way you prefer to carry it.

This case also provides a sleeper function!

This new case is much softer than any previous leather case and, with its distinctive two-toned design and accented top-stitching, is quite attractive as well. The case comes equipped with a built-in, unobtrusive, reinforced leather clip that can easily slide on and off your belt.

For vertical holsters, the magnet is generally centered where the LCD is, maybe slightly lower.

Does anyone have any links to a nice vertical holster that has the sleeper magnet? I saw a really nice one over at Seidio, but I e-mailed them and unfortunately it does not have a sleeper magnet.

I suppose it'd be possible to install my own magnet, but paying $30 for a case and having to hack it apart doesn't sit well with me.

Knut
Just to be clear, there are (on some cases) magnets which are there to keep the case lid closed. That is NOT the magnet we are talking about.

All cases with the sleep function have additional magnets, which are inserted in the case specifically to put the Pearl into sleep mode when it's inserted into the case.

These are positioned so that they are over the keyboard, when the Pearl is in the case.

FYI

Greg
That's the same one I posted photos of above (scroll up).

VERY nice case, the sleep function works great, has a magnet to keep the lid closed, beautiful, soft leather... overall, very nice case!

Very happy with mine.

I know how the magnet works, I assumed when I bought this case, as it was for the 8100, that the magnets would be where they needed to be. No worries, I broke open a 4 year old hard drive. You can find really powerful thin magnets in there. Broke a little 1/4" square X 1/16" thick magnet off. Made a little 1/4" slit in the back of my case and slipped it in, presto!!

I apologize for the mis-information. All of our Blackberry holsters work with the sleeper function.

Thanks
