Default Powering off Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

I was told that I should power off my blackberry everyday and take out the battery to keep it functioning well. Is that true? My husband has a blackberry 8703 thru verizon and NEVER powers it off or takes out the battery and his works perfectly fine. My blackberry is thru tmobile.

You should hold down the ALT key and type RACE to check your free memory (file free). If you see it fall below 15MB, either pull the battery or use the SoftReset application. I usually reset my Pearl about every week or so.

to gain more memory you should clear unneeded sent and received text messages/email and clear out you call log(sent/received/missed). then press and hold ALT then type LGLG. you will get a log, press the MENU key and clear the log. Then do your reset. Like stated before, this should be done about once a week to keep your BB running in top shape. Its like clearing the cookies and temp files from your computer to make it run faster.

Email, SMS, and call logs barely use any memory. Most people want to keep those indefinitely.

These things do use quite a bit of memory:
Samples video
Sample images/music
Unused languages
Unused themes
Unused ringtones
Pictures (or memory allocated for pictures by camera application)
Browser cache
Event log

can those unused languages, ringtones, etc be deleted?

I installed Metfans' FREE soft reset program. As a matter of habit I reset the Pearl every morning. It does not take but a few minutes and my Pearl runs fresh and "clean" all day.

But I also do that with my PC. I reboot daily [and sometimes during the day] to freshen it up. I especially reboot after installing a program, even though the program may not say to reboot, or just before/after doing intensive video editing.

There's lots of members who might label my reset/reboot procedure as extreme, but I have it on good authority that they check their cars' engine oil level ONLY when the red warning light goes off.

I have had my blackberry for over a year now and i rarely turn it completely off not to metion go through the trouble of taking the battery out and mine seems to still be in good working condition so i dont think leaving it on for long periods of time will hurt it...

That's a little too OCD for me. I reboot every few months, or when really critical Windows updates come out.

I was told the same thing by T Mo. They said that they send the phone updates and it's good to turn off every day and pull the battery weekely. Not sure how true that is but... I set it to automatically turn off around 2 am and turn back on at 6 am. That way I know it's done and I don't have to remember to do it.

I dont know...for some reason my friends will say that they called me or texted me and I will have never gotten either. So I dont know if I just have a defective handset or if its a service issue.

I usually do a hard reset/ soft reset about once every 2 weeks and it works great. Pearl runs smoothly in between. As for turning it off, i use the auto on and auto off feature. I dont need people waking me up at 4 in the morning cause they are drunk.

You can also press OPTIONS and STATUS to check your free memory. I use the soft reset program, especially after listening to music, that seems to chew up memory and causes a BT problem (not being able to hear phone calls). I also use the auto off/on feature to save the battery. Mine drains faster as my cell service is crappy so it drains quicker.
