So I took the SIM card out of my phone. Booted the device back up, and as soon as it comes up I get 1XEV service.

I tried to make a call to my work desk and sure enough I can call out.

I did a wipe of the handheld, waited for it to reboot and sure enough, still 1XEV.

Go to phone and look at the top and sure enough my phone number is there.

I'm running 4.7.0.99

Can anyone explain to me how this is working? I thought it had to have a SIM card.

If I go to Advanced Options --> SIM Card it says no valid SIM card

The sim card is for when u leave the usa. Storm is a world phone. I took my sim out after a week cause it kept going into roam mode then it would shut the radio off by itself.

So the only way to turn the service off is through Verizon?

The 9530 functions on CDMA technology which does not use SIM cards. GSM uses SIM cards. As stated, the SIM is for GSM use when leaving the country.
