Hi i dont get to touch or use the BES, i only activate the BB for employees at our office. So i deal with our admins for the BES activations. We have ahd some issues in the past with some users complaining that after the unit was re-activated wether it was an upgrade or re-activation, that they did not have all of there same old emails as before the activation. The admins say that there is a max of 14 days prepopulation on the BES settings and only 750 last messages also. I know that you could also just do a backup and then a restore of there messages before you re-activate the BB that way they have the same...but i have had it happen to me a couple of times now where that option didnt work!!!

So i am asking for your input/info from the BES admins to see if there is another solution or something i could sugest to our admins which would make it easier for us when we re-activate BB from BES and have all of there emails pushed back.

The only way to get them all back is to do a backup/restore.

That said, with Remote Search functionality (HH OS 4.5 and BS 4.1 SP5 minimum requirement) does it really matter that much?

There is a registry hack to force pre-population:

Procedure:

1. In the Registry Editor, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents\.
2. Create a new DWORD value named ForceMsgPrepopOnActivation.
3. Set the value to 1 to turn this on.

But this will still only get your 14 days 750 emails back.

What is the option "remote search functionality" i never heard of this. Is there something we need to enable on the BES for this. And where is it in the BB to do it.

Actually i found the option on the BB to do remote search. But it gave me an error: "Mailbox is not indexed. Contact admin for more info."
Is this because of the BES is not enabled to do remote search. But basically i guess with this function, correct me if i am wrong, but you could search for an email that u isnt on your blackberry but still for example on your notes server mail file inbox?

Messages > click menu button > Search > Search Type = Remote

Nothing to enable on BES. Just needs at least HH OS 4.5 and BES 4.1.5.

With Domino your mailbox need to be Full Text Indexed ... with Exchange it does not need to be.

Sorry, you're out of luck unless you decide to do FTI on your mailboxes.

For Domino, I wrote a simple agent to modify the "Activation Date" field for the user in the "User Profiles" database to an earlier date (prior to the actual activation). I then cut messages out of the user's Inbox and pasted them back in again. They were successfully sent to the handheld.

So far I have not seen any negative implications to doing this, but you are taking a risk trying this and it's surely not supported RIM.
