Unhappy Connecting BlackBerry To Laptop

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all, Im a first time poster to these forums, just joined because I pretty much have no other ideas and have no clue as to how to fix this problem I have with my BlackBerry. I have the BlackBerry 8310 (curve) and I bought a
2g media card so I inserted it into my BlackBerry. So I connected my BlackBerry to my Toshiba laptop with a USB cable, and installed desktop manager. My media card settings on my BlackBerry are:
Media Card Support: On
Encryption Mode: None
Mass Storage Mode Support: On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected: Yes
__________________________________________________ __
Total Space: 1.8GB
Free Space: 1.8 GB

I can transfer pictures and ringtunes onto my BB using Desktop Manager, although the files can only be 2.83MB or smaller, because its storing it to my Device Memory and not my Media Card. When I connect my BB to my laptop using the USB cable it should act as a new drive was plugged in (or so I thought) and ask me to open the folders automatically or allow me to explore it from "My Computer" where my C drive is etc.... but it won't read it like that, the only way I can transfer files is if I use desktop manager. I can't figure out anyway to get my media card to read on my computer. My friend's BB Pearl will automatically ask him to explore folders on his media card when connected from the same USB cable to my laptop. So I think that its from my BB's side of the connection. I have called BB Technical Support (not trying to be rude or incinuating anything but...) they were no help at all, sent me to Rogers Technical Support for some reason and said they would be able to help me free of charge, so of course they transferred me to Rogers Technical Support and they were definitely no help at all, and had no idea where to start with my problem. I have searched and searched and searched the web for answers to my problem but nobody seems to have the same problem as far as I can see. PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE help me?

Thank you so much.

What you need to do is close DM before you connect your BB to your laptop. When DM is open it goes into the whole connection sync stuff. If you have DM closed and then connect your BB to the laptop it will then prompt you if you want to use "Mass Storage Mode" and then select yes and then it will act like another drive

Thanks for replying, but I don't connect when DM is open, and it doesn't do anything. It makes the noise like something new is connected to my laptop but nothing happens.

Might need to install the drivers and such since it's a newly installed program...have you let it sit for a little bit and watched for the little bubble in the task bar to show

Install the drivers? Oh on the task bar, yes it's installed, everytime I switch USB ports the bubble comes up and it says installed successfully device is ready to be used or something along the lines of that.

And does your BB prompt you to use "Mass Storage Mode"? If not try going to Options -> Media Card -> Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode when Connection and select "yes" and see if it comes up with it that way.

No it doesn't ask me that, just auto installs drivers, or so it says that's what it does in the bubble on the task bar. I just plugged it in to all 4 of my USB drives, with the selection as Yes, and then redid it while it was plugged in it still said yes, so I changed it to no, then yes on all 4. And I even selected prompt when connected and still nothing happened :( thank you for all your help btw. I have to goto work now though, so I will respond in about 8 hours, any other suggestions are very welcome. Thank you

The only thing that I can think of is it isn't enough time for the BB to prompt you when you have it set as "prompt" under the settings. You shouldn't need to keep connecting and re-connecting to different usb ports one is fine.

Alright well, I've been mainly using one, but sometimes my wireless mouse won't work on one of them and I have to change the USB port, but I usually have it connected to the same one that works with my friends BB pearl. I have no idea what to do and why its not asking me :( I will get back in 8 hours Thanks again, please more suggestions. I'll try anything
