VGA output?
Please Login to Remove!
Hey everyone,
I did some searching and it seems that there's a few out there who say you can do HDMI to VGA.
I was asked by one of our clients if it was possible because he wasnts to use a standard projector that uses a VGA input so he can present on his PB.
I just won't want to get a Male micro HDMI to female HDMI cable with an HDMI to VGA adapter and find that the $60 spent was all in vein.
Anyone done this? Is it actually possible as some have reported?
Cheers

I have not heard of it being done. Perhaps there is someone here with more information.

Re: VGA output?
HDMI is a DVI connection and DVI from a PC usually has the VGA transmitted in the same connection.
Not sure if the Playbook does this, but it would be nice.

Re: VGA output?
Hmm... well it might be worth the gamble. I mean I can always use an HDMI to VGA connector for something else I'm sure.
And hell, it's a less expensive solution over purchasing a projector that does HDMI.

Re: VGA output?
I would like a solution to this too, but haven't found one. When I was at RIM for a pre-release intro to the PlayBook many of the presnters did exactly what you are talking about, presented from their PlayBooks to a VGA projector. They were using an HDMI to VGA adaptor that was a box about the size of a wall plug transformer. So I'm thinking there needs to be some electronics involved. I guess I should have asked where they got the adaptor.

This could be true (or they didn't know what thety were doing)
VGA is an analogue signal, whereas DVI-D and HDMI are digital. IF the HDMI output has the ability to push analogue, then a straight conversion cable would work.
If not, you would need to do as the guy's from RIM did, an actual Digital to Analogue convertor... about $200... not too great a price.

Yeah.. there are dozens of such adapters on the HP site. Wanna give us a link to the one that works with the PB?

You will need a device inbetween your Playbook and the VGA out as the Playbook transmits a digital singal thus you will need something to convert the digital singal to a analog singal (which is what VGA uses).

Re: VGA output?
Any updates on whether or not a straight HDMI to VGA would work, or if you need an actual signal converter?

Re: VGA output?
I order some of these as suggested:
HP HDMI to VGA Display Adapter | HP® Official Store
They appear to have a standard HDMI port though, so will need extra passive cable or adapter to convert to Micro-HDMI.
I'll try to remember to post back after they arrive and I have tested.

Well, I have all the parts in question. And it does work very well. I did notice the PB will timeout the screen if doing a Slideshow to go presentation on battery alone. By plugging in a power source, it seems better. I may still need to tweak a few settings.
Here are the links to what I got:
HP HDMI to VGA Display Adapter | HP® Official Store
Buy.com - HDMI Type A to Type D F/M Adapter
I'll be doing some presentations for real with this soon and I'll post my "real world" experience.

Re: VGA output?
Does anybody have a setup that allows them to get VGA output from their Droid X? I'd like to be able to use this for presentations at work (we've got lots of VGA projectors) and use this with the second input on my monitor at home, which is VGA.
I've spent some time searching and cable websites, but I haven't found a way to do this with less than three converters (micro HDMI to HDMI, HDMI to DVI, and DVI to VGA). With all these cables this would wind up being really unwieldy and big, and I'd like something that could comfortably fit in my backpack.
Has anybody figured out a way to do this? I'd really appreciate your help!

Re: VGA output?
Hey there and welcome.
Not to be rude but you realize this is a forum for BlackBerry users and this thread is specifically about the PlayBook, right?
