Thanks for the quick reply. I got impatient and decided to follow the factory reset instructions
here. It's done the install (presumably the same OS version again) and is now "Connecting to device".
I saw "Blackberry Playbook" come up on the screen for a little while, and now it's black again. Hopefully Desktop Manager will tell me when to give up waiting.
