Reason? Roaming is EXPENSIVE. I easily spent over 200 on phone calls when i was in hongkong.
My blackberry didn't work in China.
I bought a cheap nokia and a phone card which was the better way for me.

Voice is a different matter. For voice I have a CSL sim from Hong Kong that lives an a Moto V400. Elsewhere I skype.
