No nation would even think about attempting such a test were the US military at the level of preparedness it should be, and if North Korea were fearful of the full extent that the US would go to defend itself.
It's like I would never think of thumping Chuck Norris on the nose. Never, being fearful of the butt-kicking my lifeless body would receive in return.
Obviously North Korea feels little fear in thumping the US on the nose.
