On the first part of your question, I would be purely guessing and I really don't know. My guess is as follows: if Cingular has a successful roll out of UMTS and demand is high to have it on the 8700 both RIM and Cingular will want to add it sooner rather than later, after all they are in the business to make money. Fi not it is anybodies guess. On the second part of your question, I did not go into that level of detail but rather expalined that it was hurting the quality image that RIM devices are known for and that was of great concern to them. My impression is that they will find the problem and get it fixed quickly. BoyGenius has taken the unit appart and says there is a rubber seal around the window so the gap really has nothing to do with the problem. Let's face it, there are many ways for dust to get into the unit such as when you open the battery cover, through the earphone jack, and around the trackwheel.
