I'd scan the forums for the exact details for this procedure, but I'm pretty sure all you need to do is to make sure you do NOT have any other firmware for the model installed other than the version you want, and then rename or delete the file
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Vendor.xml.
The Application loader should now recognize that it has newer firmware available for your device automatically, and if it doesn't come up automatically when you connect, it should offer the update if you start it manually.
