Ok, so I made the jump anyway. After I came home from work, I read these posts and others, and decided to give it another go.
So I uninstalled & reinstalled my DM (still kept 4.7 though), I did the same for the 5.0 for the phone, then I just went at it one slow step after another...............and Success! It installed on my 8900, and I must say even though it's only been an hour, it is a pretty nice update. I can't seem to get my CNN to open from the home screen icon I downloaded from CNN directly ( I get a message saying that "The protocol is not supported by the handheld. Please try a different url." I tried to reinstall it, but got the same result.
Other than that, it seems to be nicely put together.

Thanks to all of you for your help/input. Might be all for naught though, as that 9700 is eating away at my mind (and wallet).
