In the closed thread about this OS you mention about the shortcuts. Have a look at this thread
"themes/New OS", it's been mentioned that shortcuts now work with the Zen and Dimension themes on the 7100 series although on the main screen you are limited to the keys which are not numbers, but in the popup menu in Zen they all work.
As far as removing the label for the applications on the home screen in Zen, go to options, home screen and uncheck show application names.
