Other users on Telus with different hardware and software versions get exactly the same problem. There are threads on HoFo telusmobility.howardforums.com and the Opera forum that discuss it.
Opera just released a silent update today that is supposed to allow it to fall back to using the BIS proxy.
Old version = 4.1.11320 20080514 (Check help in opera application for your version)
New version = 4.1.11355 20080522

For some reason updating opera resets your bookmarks so either use the sync feature or you will need to re-enter them.
