SMS acknowledgment,
I cannot find any process that does that in the USA, It is something the carriers are doing in Europe. Based on the info on the internet, Vodaphone does offer this service. You might see if it's an option the carrier can turn off. Not sure what it is called for the BB phone but the IPhone calls it Imessage.,
