I doubt it. That's the problem with his response. Instant email isn't so great if it's just a copy of what is waiting for you back in your Outlook inbox. Having to delete emails from multiple places is very inefficient. I suspect folks that give these types of responses have never actually had IMAP working between Outlook, their BlackBerry, and all other methods of checking email, such as a browser.
