I still have a Sidekick 2 and honestly have o real problems with it. I've had it for over 2 years and it only just started having any problems.
I've had no problems to speak of with Tmobile (detroit area) as far as signal and service.

My main reason for switching up to a BB curve was that the Sidekick lx is $299!! and that's with a 2 year extension. It adds nothing to my existing phone besides a music player and pretty screen. For $249 the curve is a great value with al of the extra features and Tmobile has a BB plan that is the same price as my Sidekick one.

I'm excited by UMA for when i'm at relatives houses with poor reception.

Overall in the same boat as OP and just wanted to give my 2 cents to help out a bit. Excluding tmobile possibly sucking in your area, I'd recommend them, especially for the price.
