I use the 8300 with the GPSlim 240 and have had no problems at all using Telenav. I'm in Canada and Telenav has not let me down. I enjoy the voice navigating and it supports text-to-speech for announcing the street names as opposed to "turn right in 300 meters".
I can't speak for the Garmin service because I haven't used it. I don't even know if the server is even available in Canada.
