Verizon will be releasing VZnavigator for the 8830 which will make use of the internal GPS on this device.
VZnavigator will be Verizon's own subscription based navigation solution and will likely generate a good source of additional income for them.
It makes sense (for Verizon) to lock down the internal GPS from other third-party nav software so it basically forces a subscriber to use a Verizon service if they want to make use of the internal GPS.
