I went up to the new one that Cingular just posted that is being discussed in the forums. Its 8700c Cingular OS Upgrade Package v4.1.0.529 - Applications: 4.1.0.377.
I have checked with other folks locally who have recently upgraded who are not having the same issue. It only seems to be happening to me at this point.
But this thread got me thinking that I had also added in WebMessenger's Blackberry Alerts at about the same time. I just removed it and now my backlighting seems to be working correctly again! I was looking at Alert's ability to have Vibrate AND Ring but I guess I'll give that up for backlighting
