Curve 8530 Voice Notes Recorder

I have a Blackberry Curve 8530 through Sprint running v5.0.0.654. It has 108.6 MB of free space available Application Memory and a 2GB SD card with 1.8 GB of free space.
When I try to record a voice note via the native Voice Notes Recorder application, it acts really buggy. It will start to record, but the timer will stop after 3 seconds. If I hit pause, it does nothing for about 10 seconds. Then, it will pause and the time will be 13 seconds, with nothing recorded for the last 10 seconds.
Based on some things that I read online, I tried the following:
1. Deleting the voicenotes folder on the SD card. There was no option to be able to do this.
2. Restarting the unit with a battery pull. Didn't help at all.
3. Pulling the SD card or turning off SD card support. Made it work perfectly.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is? It seems like a simple program and I can't figure out how to get it to work with the SD card enabled.
