Look at your mini usb jack on the phone with a magnifying glass. Mine had some bent pins. The phone might charge fine but it uses different pins for the data.

I know what you mean. I feel the same pain. I had a 7130 with suretype and didn't have these issues of recognizing the words I am having with my 8130. Everything else about the 8130 is better though.

With the free maps program from BB and my DeLorme bluetooth GPS, I get very good results for the price - Free. Of course, you also need a data plan.
