What does 3g mean as opposed to 3G?

I have a blackberry 9800, on orange. about an hour ago my phones given up on me? :? I cant make calls, send texts, use bbm or anythin... even though i have full bars but it says 3g as opposed to 3G.....

I downloaded and installed a theme called HTC Incredible, on my BB 9800, but it is not coming up in the list of themes. Also after installation it did not ask me to activate theme, which does happen...

the only options that are given are 'direct', 'corrective' and 'predictive'.
nothing that suggests it will turn it off...

when using the touch screen keyboard, predictive text is active, is it possible to turn it off? in the options it only says direct, predictive and corrective..
