On qwerty devices, pressing alt-cap-del will reboot the device. Some say it isn't as effective as a battery pull, and maybe in some cases it isn't. But it's what I do...

A battery pull is the method of resetting the defice. As Midnight says, it fixes most issues. Truly, it is _the_ first thing to try when the blackberry is not working...
