Is there any logic to the numbering of devices?

I though I had cracked it, xx2x = WiFi, xx3x CDMA, but now the 8310 has thrown me. In the good old days the number meant something, are RIM now playing device bingo with the numbering schemes?

Just playing around with eval 8120 and as its my first WiFi enabled device it got me thinking, I assume that it will work pretty much as it does when using GPRS to connect back to the infrastructure...
