unfortunately none of the suggestions worked. They all lead me to the "Uninstalled" option on BlackBerry Appworld.

Judging by the reviews on Appworld, I am not the first to encounter this problem...

yes it is acceptable to update your bb with the latest os from any provider. Just make sure the os is suitable for your device and delete the vendor file before upgrading!
