Sliding on the screen just feels different. Doesn't impede sliding your finger on the screen. You'll forget what the "old" screen felt like in about 5 minutes.

I removed mine from the one I sent back to Verizon and was able to use most of it (everything but the button and camera protectors) on my replacement. No visible damage to the old one.

I tried that as well. Even after a battery pull I was still getting audible alerts at max volume (with everything set to silent and vibrate off). Blank .mp3 took care of it as a workaround.
