I have never encountered that problem myself, but I have had problems with a dusty trackball. If that's the problem, just put some alcohol on a q-tip and wipe across the trackball a couple of times...

Do a full backup of the phone and reinstall the device software. If you don't want to lose all your apps back them up using BBSAK. That's the best advice I can give you.
