8300 "CURVE" Broken glass screen, help
 

Hi everyone!

Ok well here is the story =-( I accidently droped my Blackberry CURVE 8300 today and broke the glass lense screen cover. It basicaly looks as if a rock hit your car windshield and produced a spider crack across the windshield. The spider crack is about a 1/2 wide directly over the center of my screen. The phone it's self is working perfectly fine with no problems and no bleeding or spotting on the LCD screen. It appears to be only to the lense protective screen casing. I was curious if anyone knew where I could go or call to get it replaced. I know it's a new phone and their is some limitations on the availibility of replacement parts for the 8300, but I saw a post on here saying try "OEM replacement parts" I'm not sure what that is? Is it a website for RIM?? I web searched it and car, propane and other such companies poped up! I would GREATLY appreiate anyones help and advice on how to solve this issue to my new phone :-( I would hate to have to look at a spider cracked screen for the next 2 years.. Thanks

i actually dropped my curve pretty hard on the pavement a couple days after i got it. there was a pretty big scratch on the top left right above the screen. i was pretty bummed.

to make a long story short, i called up at&t, said the device was deffective, had the rep put a huge note on my account saying that any corporate store had to honor my exchange.

i went to the store first thing in the morning with my tainted curve. moment of truth came when the sales rep completely missed the huge scratch and gave me a new curve.

a cracked screen is going to be a lot harder to diguise but you know what, it's worth a try. worst thing they say is that you can't exchange it. it's not the most honest thing to do but you know what, cingular/at&t has screwed me on several bils.

Check this link out. I had bought their merchandise for my 8700g and they were VERY GOOD quality. and they are a lot cheaper than some other place. see if this will help you out. Sorry to hear that your BB broke. My condolences.

Sweet!!! I checked out the web site and they had exsactly what I was looking for so I went a head and place an order =) You were right $20 for somthing I thought would cost a $100+ or worse never find the replacement part and have to cough up $450 for another one at rerail price. =) I'm totaly stoked now! I was upset all day after recieving the damage to my BB, but now I should have a new screen lense here with in the next 2 weeks! =) Woo hoo!! Thanks alot I greatly appreciate it! just made my day a 10000 times better. Funny how a simple phone can do thatm or I must be easy entertained and excited haha take care once again thanks!

Awesome link! My 4 day old 8300 was scratched by some sand in my pocket on Satuday, the lens looks 6 months old. For $11 I should have a replacement in two weeks.

you know, ppl that do what you did, slowly, but surely - cost companies big bucks which eventually trickle down to consumers.
pick up your phone and live with the scratch.

It really amazes me how people have such a low ethical standard these days. I mean you dropped the Curve, then you feel all giddy because you ripped off ATT----

fyi i took apart my pearl yesterday to clean it and i screwed up the trackball. i called tmo to tell them that i, myself did that to my phone and if they were willing to extend me another new pearl at a better cost than $ 350, and surely they did it (for 260 something).

when you abuse the system that doesn't abuse you, you will wind up the victim later on.....

sorry i'm not trying to start a flame war, but try to use a little discretion here & there, it pays off in the long run for everybody

I also have a Curve with less than a month with scratches caused by sand in my pocket. I'm waiting a bit to replace the screen and for $5.99 that is great deal and peace of mind. How does one replace the screen. Does the seller send you instructions how to remove and add the new one?

I just sent them an e-mail with this same question. Let's see what their response is.

i don't really know anything about the curve. this is a question you can ask in the 8300 series section.

i know that on the pearl, the front lcd screen is part of the front faceplate.

i just recieved my new replacement lens but no instructions on how to change it out. Does anyone have a HowTo or a link to the service manual for the 8300?

I'm a little nervous to just start taking the thing apart.

I just replaced my screen (aka lens) this past week, the instructional video listed above was very helpful. However, that video shows the full process to replace the actual LCD underneath the glass lens, so you won't need to go quite so far. There was a bit of trial and error for me in trying to figure out how the lens was attached to the face plate. It turns out that there is clear adhesive on the underside of the lens, and it then sits down in the front of the faceplate rather than being attached to the underside of the faceplate. I used a very small flat screwdriver to pry the lens from the adhesive, which worked like a charm. My replacement lens also included new adhesive, which I used to mount the new lens to the faceplate. Overall, it was a pretty easy process, just be careful to not be too forceful as there are some small plastic tabs and very thin plastic pieces on the faceplate involved with this that you don't want to break.

You just saved me lots of heartburn
 

This site is great. I have been handling my Curve with kid gloves worried about the inevitable first drop. This makes me feel much better.
