Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded. (Choose the 8700c AT&T version)
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Edited Blackberry.alx below for adding all vendor themes. Simply replace your Blackberry.alx file with the one attached and run Application Loader again to install the themes.

What's up with AT&T having 8700g software?

Off to upgrade!

Downloading now!!

jeremyckitching 06-14-2007 11:15 PM

I am downloading it but I think I will stick with 4.2.1 Rel 149. Just working so well for me right now.

4.2.1.96 is the most stable version so far (at least on my Pearl.) If it's anything like the Pearl's .96 version, I recommend installing it.

I might just have to give it a try then. If anything I can just go back down should I not like it. Thanks John!

Like I figured, there's nothing noticably different over 4.2.1.94

flash24 06-15-2007 12:41 AM

It's running preety smooth so far.. no notable difference i have seen.

SugarDaddy 06-15-2007 12:53 AM

I migrated into the AT&T 4.2.1.155/4.2.1.96 without any problems. So far, there's no difference between this one and the Bharti release which I had before. Although the first bootup was faster as compared to other version of the 4.2.1.xxx. However, the loudness of the ringtones is of my main concern. I don't think there's a difference in the volume of the ringtones as the other 4.2 releases. Same shitty volume!

Are you folks applying this version to your Tmobile BBs? If so this works fine and doesnt jack up the BB in any way? I only have the latest Tmobile one on mine which is 4.1.0.346.

Nice.... Yea Im waiting for this download to come down, looks like BB is throttling their bandwidth, cause even on a T3 its sitting at 85k/sec, 45mins to download this, rediculous.

I agree....Just follow the steps in the first post. Don't worry, the OS doesn't change the branding of the phone. Other than new features you won't know it's a Cingular OS.

Pretty good- as did the previous 4.2.1.149.

So far no difference in performance.
All usual apps. work good as does Opera Mini.
