Is there a way to REALLY WIPE your device?

I bought the BB 8703e used and it still has the email accounts on them and even after I did a wipe device, it still has the email accounts of the previous owner.

Is there a way to really reformat this device? Or does anyone have any tips to get the email accounts out?

1. Download and install Desktop Manager 4.2 from here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22 (Be sure that the BB is not connected during install.)

2. Download and install to your PC, the latest OS for your device from here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...ry-device.html

3. Delete the file "vendor.xml" located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader.

4. On your PC, install JL_CMDER, located here: (http://www.blackberryforums.com/atta...der-v1.8.3.zip) Connect the device and use iJL_CMDER to wipe the device. Be sure that Desktop Manager isn't running when using JL_CMDER. When finished your device should display a 507 error.

5. Open Desktop Manager and run Application Loader. The Desktop Manager should then detect the device and load the new OS.

That should give you a clean, out-of-the-box device.

thanks...but at what point do i actually connect the BB to my computer? in step 5 you said connect it but before that nothing?

Also, how do I use JL_CMDER to wipe my device?'

EDIT:
Sorry I got stuck on step 4 but I found out that you click on JL_Cmder and then follow the screen. I clicked on JavaLoader.exe and it caused me confusion. I also clicked on Install.cmd and everything wiped out from what I unzipped from the JL_CMDER zip file...does that do anything?

This thread has lots of info on JL_CMDER.

Actually I don't think that will make a difference. It sounds like the previous person's BIS account is associated with the handheld. Even after using JavaLoader, the account will still be there. Get the previous owner to login to their BIS account and remove it, or contact your carrier to see if they will do it.

That is true, however, this procedure gets the stuff off his device. Whether the pin is still registered with another account is a whole other story. Hopefully his provider can help him with that.

Application loader problem

What would I do if the application loader does not find the operating system. I tried to add it but comes up with an error. Thanks

did you delete the vendor.xml as described in step 3?

The MVPlaya 01-06-2007 05:11 PM

When I reinstalled the OS, I don't have a browser nor do I have an icon for "email settings"

Is there something I did wrong?

Options >Advanced Options >Host Routing Table >Register Now....

The MVPlaya 01-06-2007 05:17 PM

Which one? There are a bunch of different selections...

There's
Verizon [240]
Verizon [71440]
Verizon [4d440]
Verizon [55c40]

and A LOT more...

John Clark 01-06-2007 05:19 PM

doesn't matter which one....just do the register now.

NJBlackBerry 01-06-2007 05:19 PM

It doesn't matter. Click the wheel and select Register now.

The MVPlaya 01-06-2007 05:26 PM

While it's connected to my computer?

The MVPlaya 01-06-2007 05:26 PM

Does this use the data service?

John Clark 01-06-2007 05:27 PM

No...it doesn't need to be plugged in. make sure you have wireless data coverage and just Register now....

The MVPlaya 01-06-2007 05:28 PM

How much data does this use? I don't have a data package right now...

The reason I ask, is because I'm on the phone with the lady right now...and I'm wondering if she puts on the data package is it worth it, or do I just use the 44.99 and pro-rate that.

John Clark 01-06-2007 05:32 PM

no data plan? No browser, no setup internet mail, etc....sorry.

The MVPlaya 01-06-2007 05:35 PM

Well, you're right I don't really need that right now because I'm waiting on something to go through so I can get the Unlimited Data with Verizon for (44.99).

John Clark 01-06-2007 05:41 PM

Once you get the data plan straightened out just do the Register Now. They may even push it to you but Register now will take care of it.
