Worry about Lost/Stolen BB
 

Does anyone on this forum worry about a lost or stolen blackberry? I don't lock my blackberry, I guess I don't worry about it to much but what if someone stole your blackberry that knew how to use the info? I keep a lot of information in my blackberry and not all of it is just on myself I have addresses of family and people I do business with. I was curious if there are any horror stories out there of people that had their BBs lost or stole that they info in them was used against the owner. I thought about this a bit and thought of a couple of things that could happen:

Scenario 1: Someone steals your blackberry for the info it may contain. They look through your BB and find you have many business contacts. The person also sees the bank # and address where you do all your banking because you have all this info in your BB. They may have emails with bits of info, you may have cookies enabled and they can easily tell what your password is by going to different websites you had saved with login and passwords. They call your bank, provide the info, and pretend to be you. Or they call a business contact and get more personal info such as your ss # by prodding them with tidbits of info. After they get all this they take identity theft to a whole new level.

Scenario 2: At the office you work in some creep gets ahold of your BB and uses it to make you look really bad. They want you out of the way on the corporate ladder so they start sending off obnoxious emails to your clients, bosses, business partners etc. Someone good do unrecoverable damage in a very short time to your image. The only defense you have is (someone stole my BB I don't know anything about the XXX porn I just sent you Mr. CEO or client you were closing a big deal with.)


Does anyone worry about this happening to them? We keep alot of info in the BB and if it does get into the wrong hands, could be very damaging if used by someone with an imagination.

No.. We lock our Blackberrys..

Sure I worry, I worry a little more with a blackberry, but if I'm going anywhere where I think it might get stolen or I'm going to be out and about for awhile I password it. I mean thats why it's security feature is there to wipe the handheld if someone enters the wrong password to many times.

I dont know anyone who does not use the security. you dont have to look both ways crossing the street also unless of course you think you have the right of way. Big trucks will stop won't they. It only takes a few second to unlock the unit. It's just lazy not to do it.

OR, Maybe some people don't have a few seconds each phone call to unlock it. Before you call someone lazy, maybe you should think that unlocking your phone each time you pull it out of the holster is not a viable option for some people.

I store my friends and family contacts in my BB. However, I do not store any financial information in (any of) my phone.

I would suggest you do password protect your BB if you intend storing lot of senstive info.

That not true, you don't need to have it locked every time you put it into the holster (Yes that is an option). You can use a simple idle time-out.

But leaving it unlocked means if it's stolen, they can use it in any manner they wish. Gotta have some timer on it.

I use to not lock my phone. Now, I have alot of personal info on it, that I now lock it. Sure its a pain sometimes to unlock, but the benefits outweigh the negative by a whole lot.

I feel my data now is a little safer.

I keep my important stuff in the password safe. I moved all account numbers and sensitive info in the so I did NOT have to use the security features. I want to be able to use my phone without having to unlock everytime I use it

Nope not at all. Might be tempting fate but never lost a cell in 13 years, including several (many) nights out...it's on the BES so my data is backedup. If it does go for a walk then I log onto the BES an issue a 'kill' command which should nuke it in a couple of minutes.. I'm the bes admin so anywhere I can get on a PC with a 'net connection I can remote in an kill..

I don't use a password...but I do use a SIM pin

I do wish there was a fingerprint ID or similar. Our general security systems as a whole are so annoying - from jangling keys and little doorknobs to car alarms or motion detectors.

I crave 2070. Well, with a more dense ozone, less population and robotic women.

No one called you lazy. But i did read the manual and guess what , the phone rings even when locked. Watch out for the trucks!!:smile:
