You know...that thread deals with forwading GMAIL to your *@blackberry.net account. I simply added GMAIL to the BIS 2.0 email account setup and have received GMAIL on my 7290 without issue. I've actually got a 7130c sitting at home right now and once I finally get home I'll activate that and hope to have the 2 email boxes. I am now on Cingular BTW.

If that's true and it's working you are using POP. That means the BIS is polling the gmail server and it could be a 15 min delay. People like forwarding or more likely, filtering, because delivery is instant. See the page on it at my tips site.

For people who do not mind some delays in receiving their emails POP on BIS 2.0 is recommended option over forwarding because it is more reliable.

For people who use carriers other than Cingular having free Yahoo account is recommended because BIS 2.0 is tightly integrated with Yahoo and offers email delivery as fast as forwarding and as reliable as POP.

Corey,

I get my gmail on my 7100i.

Log into Gmail. Go to "Settings" in the upper left corner of the page.
Click on "Forwarding and POP."
Under POP Download," click on "Configuration instructions" (Under Configure your email client.).
See "Blackberry Internet Services" under Wireless Devices. Follow the ensuing instructions. I had to do it twice but got it working.

I don't even register my email accts in the BIS web client, I just have my mail forwarded to the handheld address. Instant email vs. 15 minute delay at best..

I use the Gmail forwarding feature as well. Although I do think push Gmail to blackberry might not be long off due to Google's other apps for blackberry. The only account I have that is POP is gmail, everything else I have is either IMAP which is almost instantaneous or exchange server which is like imap.

I'm having such severe problems with mail delays (esp. on AOL) that I've been on the phone with tech support every single day this week.

They all told me that a service pack for Gmail is coming out this weekend which will push Gmail like they already do to Yahoo.

You'll have to remove and then re-add the accounts to get it to work once the service pack is released (nobody could tell me which day, but they all agreed it was scheduled for this weekend).

My gmail works fine. Yeah, thier's a 10 minute delay, but the ten minutes doesn't kill me. Push gmail would definatly be cool though. I'll have to look into that.

flexichick 07-26-2006 10:43 PM

Try it next week after the service pack. 10 minutes is ok, but one minute is better :-)

Yeah, instant is better than 10 minutes anyday.

That would be a big one. Will Cingular allow it?

flexichick 07-27-2006 09:12 AM

I don't know about Cingular. I'm on T-Mobile and I was asking specifically about my ongoing issues. I spoke with 3 tech guys from RIM and they all said that Gmail will be as fast as Yahoo (I don't want to pay for a Plus account to use it in my Outlook) once the service pack is released

option94 07-27-2006 09:31 AM

I dont see why cingular wouldn't allow it. Gmail is becoming a very popular email service, it could only benefit cingular to have a push gmail.

And, not to change the subject but pin me if you want invites to gmail. I've got about 400, and no one to give them to.

option94 07-29-2006 02:38 PM

Bump...
Has anyone heard anything about push gmail?

Magnum 07-29-2006 03:17 PM

Maybe I'm behind the curve here, but having tried both forwarding and POP with gmail I say hands down POP is better. I found it annoying with forwarding, because I would get the email on my bb even though I may have been currently viewing the email.

I don't use gmail for business purposes, so if it is delayed because of polling woopie.....shit, I don't even care if I have a slight delay with business mail because I still respond much faster then if I had to wait to get back in the office. I also like being able to delete gmails from the server using the handheld [read spam] should I not need to save it and I won't be at my pc for a while.

One things for sure, regardless of how you prefer to set it up, bb's rock and have come a long way from my first one which was a 957.

Yeah, I don't NEED push gmail. Its my personal mail. I can live very easily with the 15 minute delay and have for a while now. Faster is better so I want it pushed. Just because I'm a computer need and I want it. No other reason.
