BESX crashing during Exchange backup
 

Environment: Exchange 2010 hosted on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V machine (Dell PowerEdge R610 using PowerVault SAN). 120 users. Backup running during off hours...midnight.

I'm running Exchange backups using Windows Sever Backup (so it does a full machine backup). Runs overnight. But my BB users are complaining that in the morning they're not receiving any new emails on their phones. I then have to go on to the server and by stopping/restarting the BB services, things get back to normal.

The backups themselves indicate they complete successfully.

There are many event log entries during the backup timeframe but hard to tell what's benign and what's important.

Any one else having this issue? Any way to avoid this?

It seems like bb may just be sensitive to the backup process itself or just intense resource usage duirng that process.
