More Application Space after OS point release upgrade
I just upgraded my BB from V5.someting to the next V5 point release. Before I did the upgrade, i had about 2MB free application space. After the upgrade, i have 21MB free. This surprised me. What was taking up the space before the upgrade which isn't now? It's very hard to tell where the free space goes.

Re: More Application Space after OS point release upgrade
Had you done a battery pull prior to starting the upgrade process?
If not, then the running of the device will be what set it down to 2MB, that when rebooted during the upgrade process released memory, giving you now 21MB |
Re: More Application Space after OS point release upgrade
Also, FYI, take a look at point #7 at http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ml#post1251403.
The answer is likely a combination of factors, and, as Midnight Draven suggests, your available memory will return to more or less what you had observed before, all things being equal. |
Re: More Application Space after OS point release upgrade
Thanks for the info. I see the memory use creeping up now.
>Also, as the OS runs it uses memory that won't be regained even after a battery pull. Huh? what is this all about? Why kind of an operating system is this? Is there no way to delete all the temp files, etc that eats precious BB memory? I really which RIM allowed more application space on the 9000 since it has a gig for data built in. I find myself deleting applications i want to use just to make room for other apps that seem to evetually hang the device after they run for awhile requiring a reboot. Seems like there's a real issue with memory leaks. |
Re: More Application Space after OS point release upgrade
Memory leaks have been the bane of every Blackberry I've owned. It's the one thing than may drive me to Android for my next phone.
