Deploying Applications

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I have tried to search to see if this has been answered before but I can find anything. I am also having problems trying to find this in the RIM’s documentation.

I am trying to deploy two applications to our users on our BESx, one is Satellite Navigation software and the other is Goole Maps.

The SatNav application is set to ‘Required’ and Google Maps is set to ‘Optional’. Both are also set to ‘Push’ in delivery mode and ‘Wireless’ in deployment.

The SatNav installed with no problems, but Google Maps is nowhere to be seen! How do they install the application if it’s set to ‘Optional’ but being push wirelessly?

I have tried downloading it from there website, but the permissions are set to the default value and it will not run. This is why I am trying to deploy it using our BESx, so I can set the permissions on there manualy.

Any idea?

Can you push Google Maps with 'required option' to a test group. See if that's successful. The process itself may provide you an answer.

I should have known...

It didn't even install with it set as 'Required'. Found out it was a problem with the Google Maps ALX file not letting it install on OS5 devices.

A slight modification to the ALX file and now it’s working. Turns out that 'Optional' also installs the application to the device, but just gives you the option to uninstall it.

Thanks for your help.

if you are pushing GoogleMaps 4.0.2 the ALX already supports up to 5.1.0..

are you pushing one of the earlier versions ?
