8330 = teh slowerz

My curve has been EXTREMELY slow lately, when I try to type sms text msgs i can only type about 3 words then it freezes up for about 10 sec's and when I move my track ball it scrolls between icons slowly. Some help plz?

How much free memory do you have? If you need to know, do a Alt+Left Shift+H and scroll down to "File Free".

also make sure that you are closing applications and not just "minimizing" them. this will help keep the curve from getting bogged down with running too many apps at once. you can set one of the convenience keys to the application launcher which makes it nice and easy to see what apps are running and close them down quickly. also try a battery pull.

file free is 30423796 bytes, and I dont think that I am just minimizing my apps.

jsconyers 05-12-2009 05:35 PM

Sounds like apps are running.

Press Alt + escape (back key) and list what's running.

Try a battery pull and see if it speeds things up.

j_hamblin 05-12-2009 05:53 PM

right now I have browser, messenger, home screen, phone, messages. and thats all

jsconyers 05-12-2009 05:57 PM

They will always be running. Make sure your browser is not on an active page. Do a battery pull and see how things run.

j_hamblin 05-12-2009 06:00 PM

Did the battery pull browser is not on active page so idk why its slow, would a wipe or clearing the msgs work? I keep my messages for 15 days.

jsconyers 05-12-2009 06:02 PM

Is it only with SMS messages? I notice if I have a lot of SMS messages from one person and go to reply there is a lag for that contact. However, if I clear my SMS messages, there's no longer a lag.

j_hamblin 05-12-2009 06:08 PM

well Ill try that see how it goes i pretty much inly text a couple people so maybe thats the problem, its mostly just slow when i am txting, but still kinda slow all around

Wirelessly posted

Your texting can be slowed like that if the SMS options are allowing too many previous messages to be displayed while you read or reply to a particular person.

Go to Options > SMS
and look for 'Number of previous items'
Reduce that number to a reasonable amount, like less that 15, around 10 is good enough for me.

So when you read or reply to an SMS, the previous messages that make up the 'conversation' are gonna be taking up less memory, and so your texting speed should be real time.

Was just reading this thread, to the OP did you resolve your issue's yet, and if so what did you do to correct them

alb123 05-13-2009 04:00 PM

I might be completely off my rocker, but I swear there is a correlation. To the OP, I notice you are running 4.5.0.77. You may want to try a newer version of the OS. I too used to swear that keeping a decent load of messages on my device drastically slowed it down. My file free amount would be similar to yours and I always thought that was crazy. However, I'm running 4.5.0.138 and I can tell you that while I have a good load on my BlackBerry at the moment, she is humming along just fine....

File Free = 19313466 Bytes (definitely due for a battery pull soon)

Database Sizes Total: 8239.8K
Messages : 453/1194.6K
MMS Messages : 690/5913.8K
SMS Messages : 303/103.8K

You can also try clearing your Event Log. From the home screen:

ALT+LGLG > OPTION KEY > DELETE

Good luck!

Installed apps: Facebook, Accuweather Push Weather, Viigo, Poynt, RDM+, GeoTip App, midpssh, BBSports Lines, Flickr, FML, BB App World, Wikipedia, BOLT, Opera Mini, Xenozu, jMirc and a few other launchers and such...

j_hamblin 05-13-2009 04:25 PM

well just clearing out my sms seemed to have sped things up considerably along with closing all the apps in my apps list, I will try doing as widorrah said and change my settings, thanks for the help! :)

Also try changing the theme, Sometimes a Heavy Theme can be a cause of Slow operations.
