Moving to Canada- how to I migrate to Bell from Verizon?

I bought a BB 9530 not to long ago and now I am getting transfered to Canada and need to hook up to the Bell Mobility Network. Bell is telling me I need to buy a BB 9530 from them in order for it to work. I know that this is crap and need some technical advise on how I can get it set up with them.

I have an unlocked phone and my "guy" at the Bell store knows the password to get into the phone to reprogram it. The issue is SIM vs their network.

Any way to get new device Bell software into the phone and dump the Verizon software in there?

Thanks

Wirelessly posted (9000)

I don't think you can unlock the phone to use on Bell. You should be able to unlock it and use it on Rogers though.

Its not crap.. with bell (or telus), you have to buy their device since the network is CDMA..

if you want to use your 9530, get a Rogers account.. you will be ok with your device.

Bell and Telus are quite similar to Verizon and Sprint in that they won't activate phones they didn't sell. You can easily get a SIM card from Rogers though.

I agree with dc /dc unlock and go to Rogers.

Thanks guys!

I figured just a software fix would change the SIM to CDMA.

I did not realize that the physical phones were made differently inside.

Bell has no problem to activate a phone they do not sell. My Bell "guy" tried, it was just once he did and set it all up, the phone asked for the SIM card. We put in the Verizon one and it would then not save the information. The device software was dictating what he could and could not do/input.

Guess the phone is smarter than us all.

I will head to Rogers this afternoon.

Thanks again.

Please understand that neither Verizon nor Bell need the SIM card slot in order to operate as the SIM card is only used for the GSM radio and Bell and Verizon use the CDMA radio.

Better yet, get VZW's Nationwide + Canada, along with their Global Unlimited Data plan, and use it up in Canada.

Could not agree more - the only downside is that you will be "stuck" with a US mobile phone number, but will save BIG $$ if you use it to travel in the US or to call a US number. I use Vonage for my home phone service which includes free unlimited forwarding to a US number (my Verizon mobile).

It works!

Dumped OS in device with JL Cmder v1.91 and loaded new software from Bell on BB site.

Rebooted it and went to my Bell "guy" and he set it up and this time it worked!

Great news!
