BES on Domino question

Group,

I'm new to BES running on Domino and I've setup a small test lab and I'm seeing something that I don't know is normal or not. I have Lotus Domino 7.0 setup and BES 4.1.6. Here is the scenario I'm running into:

If I send emails prior to the BES server starting, those emails never get forwarded to the handheld. Once BES is running again, all subsequent emails get forwarded and all emails from the handheld are received in the Lotus Notes client. So I conclude that during the time that BES isn’t running there are emails that don’t get forwarded to the handheld.

Am I missing something here? I know that BES on Exchange will rescan the mailbox and forward all missed emails to the handheld. What needs to be done to correct this or is this just a function of BES on Lotus Domino?

TIA.

Its normal - lets assume it wasnt

Would you expect the BES to search your mail file and send EVERY message it hadnt already seen ?

Well not every single email but those that had been received since the handheld was added to the BES. But you've answered my question. Thanks.

That is not normal. If a device is activated, then all emails should eventually be forwarded even while the BES is down.

Ours catches up. Any messages that were delivered to the user's mail file after shutting down the BES are discovered and delivered shortly after the BES comes back up. I believe that's the purpose of the state database, no?

Yes, it is the base file used for reconciliation. If you replaced that state file with a stale one, you'd see all kinds of new activity.

There is only one logical explanation I can come up with at the moment. If the emails were deleted from the inbox on the desktop client before the BES came up, that would explain this behavior.

Well first you need to figure out why it's happening... then we can find a solution. We're a Notes shop too and it is not a function of LD on BES.
