My $56.50 Hot Dog

Today I purchased my first ever $56.50 Hot Dog. To soften the blow of $4.65 a gallon gas here in Southern California 7-11 has begun giving you the choice of a free Hot Dog or Big Gulp with a minimum 10 Gallon purchase.

Maybe if we hit $5.00 a gallon they will offer the drink and hot dog.

Wirelessly posted

Just ridiculous, I can't believe this is happening.

Dawg 06-11-2008 05:45 AM

and its only gonna get worse

I can't imagine the $ ever going down again. The oil companies know we'll pay the $5 a gallon now so why would they drop the price again? Just my thought. In the long run they still make more money.

Dawg 06-11-2008 06:40 AM

yes they will billions and billions. they will only care when business start closing and more people loose their jobs and the whole world starts going into a recession. I don't think we are far from that. I have several friends already that cant afford to go to work. My daughter who works for minimum wage cant afford to pay insurance and gas for her car. Its really getting ridiculous.

When I read the thread title, I thought that you had just bought a snack at a movie theater. ;-)

I agree with Dawg-this will have some pretty far-reaching impact. I read an article in my local newspaper about how retail stores are doubling their stock of barbeques and deck furniture to accomodate the increase in "staycations"-people taking time off, but not travelling becuase they can't afford to.

It was amazing, when I went to visit family over Memorial Weekend, there was no traffic on the I15. It is usually stopped due to Vegas travelers. No one can afford to go anywhere. My brothers construction company in Hawaii, their workers have parked their trucks and started driving their wives cars to work.

just this past week 3 of the states largest building supply companys went belly up, two of them had been in business for nearly 50 years.

Thought you were at a baseball game for a minute....

Wow! At least they're feeding you, with those gas prices it may be the only meal some people get in a day! :<

Price gouging! Why are hotdogs so darn high right now? Shortage of buns perhaps???

Sith_Apprentice 06-11-2008 09:54 AM

i paid $24 for a drink/hot dog yesterday. apparently the ATM at my bank gave out counterfeit $20s (even though i think the marking pen is ridiculously unpredictable. the bill was real in look, feel, watermark, hologram, security strip and about 10 other anti-counterfeiting techniques) so they had to keep the first i gave them. then i had to give my name address and phone number so the police could contact me. i ended up giving them another which was a good bill, and leaving. Quite an ordeal for a hot dog..

I recall reading somewhere how those marking pens are not even a means for detecting if they are counterfeit. I think it was a case of monkey see, monkey do! Do they really know what they are looking for?
The water mark and hologram are what determines whether its legit.

ezrunner 06-11-2008 10:54 AM

that marking pen is all I am required to use. to keep me from having to replace that bill from my pocket.

personally I trust my senses of touch and see more

The government make 15-18% per gallon of gas. The oil companies make about 4-5%. Who's gouging who?
