Switching to Multitap
How the heck to switch between multitype and sure type without going into a menu? On the 7130, I would just hit the *, but that brings up the symbols now.
The 8100 use to do the same thing. You could hold the * key and it would change back and forth. The newer OS's don't allow this to be done.
The 8130 must be the newer os then...cause holding it just locks the device. I liked thay feature...shucks!
Well you have to be composing an message, but it still doesn't work. It just brings up the Symbols menu.
I just turned suretype off all together. I like my Pearl alot better that way.
Ok, I give up... Where do you shut off suretype? It's driving me crazy!

That may be part of the idea, but I still have problems getting the right letters when I try to type a simple word, or worse, a word that is not in the dictionary. I may go back to it, but for now, I'd rather use multitouch, which I finally figured out how to turn on.

The more you use SureType the more it learns and the more of your words it will recognize. Be sure that you're finishing the word before deciding that SureType didn't recognize it. I can assure you (pun intended) that SureType is much faster than multitap and is even faster than the full QWERTY keyboards. I spent almost 3 years with SureType devices and, honestly, I still miss my SureType.

How do you shut the SURETYPE OFF! I want to use Multi-tap
No need for YELLING! When you're typing something simply hit the menu key and selct "Enable MultiTap."
Edit: I can see folks preferring a full keyboard over the Reduced Keyboard and SureType. However, what I don't get are the folks that use multitap exclusively on the 8100/7100 devices. Multitap has to be the slowest method of typing known to man. SureType does make a few errors here and there but 95% of the time the word is correct. The key is learning how to use it. After you know how to use it if one prefers the full keyboard I get that. But exclusive Multi-tappers are just Pearl users who don't know how to use SureType. I will concede there are times when multitap can be faster, i.e. typing in an email address, however if you have those email addresses in your address book, even that isn't an issue. I urge new users of the Pearl to spend a week with the SureType, read the instructions, ask questions here and you'll see that SureType is how the Pearl was designed to work. SureType is getting a big upgrade in 4.3 and I think everyone will like it even more. |
sorry thanks

Agreed..it is great. But, it also was great to have 1 key to switch right back and forth when having to do a password or email or whatever. I use suretype 95% of the time, but that other 5% it sure would be nice just to switch really quickly. They have shortcuts for so many things...why not just leave this one the way they had it.
That I do agree with. I don't know why they removed it. My guess is too many people switched by accident and called in complaining that their BB didn't guess their words anymore.
While having the short cut is nice...
You can still switch between Multi-Tap and SureType by pressing the Menu Button... and selecting either... Enable SureType, or Enable MultiTap... NOTE: I first noticed this on my VZW 8130 with Rim OS v4.3... then I picked up my T-Mo 8100 which I just upgraded to v4.2.1.107, and discovered it was gone from there too... :( Since this is something that was in the original Pearl docs... I'm suprised they took it away... |
Hi is there a way to keep my phone on multitap, it keeps changing back to suretype. thanks

How do I turn sure type off permanently?
Options > Language. Permanent? No. If accidentally hit the hotkey described above, it will be enabled again.
