GMail releases IMAP support

IMAP will let GMail messages sync across web-based, handheld and desktop interfaces, which is good news for BIS folks who rely heavily on Google.

Gmail support for IMAP should be out in a week's time..

What is the use of imap? Please educate me.
If we have the gmail application running on blaclberry it send and receives the email. So what is the benefit od imap.
