Application Loader .... Not
 

I have a 7230 running 3.7 and want to load some third party applications. Several times I've gotten an error message from the Application Loader that says "no additional applications for this device". It seems to happen when I'm trying to load .ALI instead of .ALX files. Is there a patch or a way to make the loader recognize .ALI files? Thanks in advance....

.ali and are not the proper file extensions for your 7230.. as 3.7 runs Java (J2ME) applications.

The proper files are .alx and .cod

.ali files are for older blackberries running 2.1/2.6

Like Guess said the .ali files are for the older C+ devices you can only load .alx, jad, midlet files on the newer Java devices

In fact the .alx file has some wrong information.

There are two solutions:
1/ If you are familar with editing the alx, delete the

<directory>
...
</directory>

part in the alx file and you should be able to install with app loader.

If this does not work:

2/ use Javaloader.exe. Its a command line tool. Just copy javaloader.exe in an own directory on your hard disk and copy the .cod file you want to install in the same directory.

Open a shell, go to the directory and type:
javaloader.exe -usb load file.cod

Press enter and the app will be installed.

I don't understand. Javaloader is a component of the RIM JDE. The JDE is available to whomever wants it for free. In other words, as long as you're willnig to download a very large file in order to get ahold of a very little file, you can get it from RIM. So, why not just post access to Javaloader? I'm happy to provide a copy to whomever wants it. Guess, I'll email you a copy, and you can decide whether to post it, host it, or toast it.

You would think so but I was told by RIM not to provide any JDE files. When you download the JDE you need to register, which they need for legal, etc. reasons. Not a big deal, post it if you'd like but I'm almost 100% sure if RIM finds out, they will force you to take it down.

I emailed the file to Guess -- he's the ballsey one -- I'll let him decide if he wants to deal with RIM legal.

Seriously though.. RIM has to threaten people in order to keep whats theirs, theirs. If something is uploaded to a public webspace, and you provide a link on a public board, rim could more or less eat it.

They really cant do much of anything, on a public message board.

Remember, in order to actually do anything to you, they have to have proof/evidence that it was actually you that did it, The only method of that is via IP address... but they cant get that as only I, the owner of the message board has access to it. And there is no way in hell they are getting any info that way.

Not to mention that you can ruin your handheld beyond end user repair with javaloader. Any warrenty wouldn't be upheld if you wrecked it and had to send it it for repair. And yes, they can tell what you last did to it. They did with mine.
