How can I use my 9630 Tour as a modem for my laptop?
 

I tried to follow the direccions in one of the threads here. When I go to "dagnostics" in the standard modem properties this is the information I get:

My carrier is Verizon, so I'm not sure if they have cetain restrictions for this.

First off, are you using VZ Access Manager? Also, are you signed up for tethering through Verion?

You should not need to mess with modem properties or anything like that. You also do NOT need Verizon's VZ Access Manager.

You do need to install the Blackberry Desktop Manager. Since you have a Tour, I'd suggest you make sure you have the latest release version of the DM. Since you are able to access those modem properties that show you're connected to your BB, I'm guessing you already have this part done.

Beyond that, if you're going to use Dial-up Networking tethering, you need to make sure you have the tethering option on your Verizon account. Call Verizon to confirm that. Once you have DM installed and the tethering option on your account, you can use the Dial-up Networking Wizard to create a connection that dials "#777" (no username or password required) and you'll be good to go.

If you would rather, you can use TetherBerry (from tetherberry.com). This is not Dial-Up Networking. TB installs on your PC as an Ethernet adapter, and on your BB as a DHCP Server and router. You do not have to have the tethering option on your Verizon account to use this. However, technically, using it without the tethering option is a violation of your Verizon Terms of Service. But, it does work, and numerous people have reported calling Verizon Customer Service to ask about using TetherBerry and being told that Verizon doesn't care. Read more on the Tetherberry.com forums.

Using TB is slower than DUN. My benchmarks have been about 700Kbps downloads via TB and 1500Kbps via DUN. YMMV. For me the cost savings are worth the slower speeds.

Thank you so much for the information! This is my first BB so all this terminology is new to me. Anyways, I don't think I have the tether option with verizon. I was checking the Tetherberry site and it looks like a good option. I'm going to call verizon to make sure there is not a violation of the contract and go from there.

You (unfortunately) will need to pay Verizon for tethering. And (unfortunately) use of TetherBerry will be a violation of your Verizon TOS.

Is there any app for this??? Why are there not more Apps out there? If so where are they???
