Blackberry Maps??
Has anyone found the Blackberry Maps app that supposed to be on the Torch?
BlackBerry 9800 BB-101 Go to the Maps link on the top navigation bar. I see a link for AT&T maps which you have to pay for. But I can't find BB Maps which is free. Useing Google Maps 4.4.0 which is free but wanted to see BB maps for comparison. |
ATT has typically blocked BB Maps to try to force one to use their service. I also have Google Maps installed and it works as it does on other BBs.

Ah, thats what I was thinking.
K Thanks! |
Do a search on AT&T att blackberry maps. As Dub says, the app is blocked/hidden. If you want to use it, there are ways. Just search.

I prefer Map Quest. That's a good one, too. Google Maps is the best. True that. DOUBLE TRUE... |

Google Maps i find is much better (especially with the ability of finding the nearest Starbucks and such).
I am curious though, as my BlackBerry Maps came preinstalled (I assume, unless Rogers sent it in a Service Book when I unlocked my ATT Torch to work on Rogers) |

Change the ATT theme to a third party theme and BB Maps will load to it.

Re: Blackberry Maps??
For some reason, BB Maps loaded on to my device right from the very start. I didn't have to do a thing. It was already on my old 9700 and carried right over to the Torch. Hasn't failed me yet.

Re: Blackberry Maps??
BB Maps is on the phone already - always was with every BB (part of the OS). Even my old 8100 Pearl had it. AT&T just blocks access to it on their BBs (like they did on my Pearl starting with OS 4.5, I think). Using the method posted above will show it. An OS reload or update will reset it back to how AT&T wants it, and you have to reload that file again to get access to BB Maps back.
However, I don't use it. Going with Google Maps instead. If you look at the applications on your phone when you hook it up through the Desktop Manager, you can find BB Maps listed and likely loaded. On my Pearl, I finally decided to remove it since I couldn't use it anyway to save space. I haven't bothered to remove it from my Torch yet - as it's not really impeding on my memory. |

Re: Blackberry Maps??
You can bypass AT&T's block by entering the address you want (or any address for that matter) in MemoPad. Once you have the entire address including zipcode it will get the link indicator (dotted underline). Highlight the address and click it. You will receive mapping options which are hooks into BB Maps. Once you select an option BB Maps will open. At this point, it's as if you clicked the icon because there are no restrictions that I can find. Everything works as it should. Not sure if this has ever been mentioned before, so I'm hoping this oversight by AT&T doesn't disappear in the next update.
BTW - This is the only way I found it to work. Addresses in emails and on websites do not get recognized. Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile |
