About changing service provider..
Hello Friends,
I'm kinda newbie to Blackberry and I was recently gifted with a Blackberry bold (yay!!) but here is a problem. I was gifted with an unlocked Blackberry bold with a service provider called BSNL (i'm from India)... and I have an Airtel connection for the past few years which would be very inconvenient to change. Now, if I use Airtel sim (meaning a different service provider sim) with this phone, can i still access internet ?? I wouldnt want those Blackberry email stuff.. all I need to know is, if i can browse web with an Opera Mini and access mail through Gmail client through the 'GPRS' or 'EDGE' services available.. i'll be more than happy. Please let me know if this is possible or not. Thanks a lot folks, S |
Should work but, as you probably know, BIS mail and the "normal" browser won't work for you. (most likely)
You may consider getting a real BlackBerry contract as the device is more or less pretty useless without. :D (in other words: it's not even using 50% of their capabilities without :)) |
Hey.. thanks for your response Scuzzilla..
I will try it out then. Would the blackberry browser and mail work if i'm on wifi? And.. the problem with blackberry plan is i have to change the carrier.. unfortunately, in India, taking the number along with you to a new carrier isnt available yet.. [:(] so gotto either stick or inform a bunch of people that i changed my number. this sucks either way aint it [:(] |
Using a generic data plan, not a BB data plan is a work around at best in many cases.
A read of the FAQ would have found this: How to use BlackBerry on Generic Data Plan - BlackBerryFAQ And this: What do I need a Data Plan for? - BlackBerryFAQ |

It should - in case you're switching to Hotspot or however it's called in the EN options. :) And yes, definitely - either way isn't great. :) |
