Leaked OS: Blackberry Bold 9700 6.0.0.380

Deposit Files
Megaupload
Badongo
Sendspace
Hotfile

I'm downloading right now!

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9700 smartphone
This will install to any carrier's 9700 by following the instructions below.

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

I am downloading the OS right now, but have not installed it yet. I do not know if people will run into the no theme being loaded issue. Here's some more info on that just in case:

Note to TMobile users: To prevent the white screen (no theme) being loaded, after deleting the vendor.xml file in step 2 do the following:

Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\Loader Files\9700AllLang_v6.0.0.380_P6.6.0.86\Java and either delete, rename or move the following two files:

net_rim_theme_tmobile_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod
net_rim_theme_tmobileeu_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod

Seems a LOT faster than the last build so far. But annoyingly, this still has the copy/paste issue from Address Book

Re: Leaked OS: Blackberry Bold 9700 6.0.0.380

Been running it most of the day since bbleaks dropped it. So far there is still a noticeable memory leak, still can't highlight text, and it's still overwhelmed by large webpages.

They did appear to fix the menu selection disappearing in the top bar if you scroll down too fast, battery life is still settling in so I can't speak too much for it, but there is a little bit of a drain going on that may go away.

Still a huge work in progress and nowhere near release.

Thanks for this update I was going to upgrade to this in the morning but I'm not anymore since everything seems the same I will stick to the 344 release instead.

Re: Leaked OS: Blackberry Bold 9700 6.0.0.380

I've been doing quite a bit of experimenting with the themes in this (and other versions).

It seems that this version does not require the removing of the net_rim_theme_tmobile_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod file in order to not get the black/white no-theme problem.

I tried the net_rim_theme_tmobile_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod from several different versions of OS6 for the 9700, including .344, and .358 and both of those had issues when loaded on the 9700 and 9780. They don't load properly and require the removal of it in order to get a theme to load on the device.

I'm not sure if it's a problem with the theme file itself or a conflict with another file like the main BlackBerr6 theme cod file. However, the TMobile, and other carrier theme files are not really full themes. They simply label the BlackBerry6 theme file as "BlackBerry 6 for TMobile" instead of just a basic "BlackBerry 6" theme. It's only around 100KB in size.

So far, on the 9700 the .380 TMobile theme file is the only one that works properly The only other theme that works properly is the TMobile theme file from the 9780 v6.0.0.285 that is shipping on the TMobile US 9780 device.

If you want to try that theme file you can get it with the 9780 OS for TMobile. You can download it here:

Re: Leaked OS: Blackberry Bold 9700 6.0.0.380

The other issue I've experimented with is the cursor issue in the Manage Connections. This issue only happens when you access Manage Connections by rolling the cursor up the home screen to the top ribbon bar and pressing the trackpad.

What happens is that when you open the menu by clicking the top ribbon bar the manage connections will open but when you scroll down, the cursor will disappear and not come back.

I haven't completely figured this one out yet but it seems if you lower the font size to around 7 or 8 the cursor will stay visibile more often. It's not 100% so I'm not sure I've narrowed down to the actual problem yet but it's something.

Re: Leaked OS: Blackberry Bold 9700 6.0.0.380

First feedback after less than a day.
- Did not have to get rid of the t-mobile theme with BBSAK on this one (although I had to do it on the previous 2 versions)
- Lost the ribbon (top one where you change the connection settings) on first try and then again just now,
- More memory out of the box than with .358
- Battery life seems to have improved
- Still difficult to slide across days in the calendar. Feels like the touchpad is unresponsive.

Otherwise still liking it a lot

i noticed that that only happens if you scroll down too quickly. I have my font set to BBAlpha Serif 6 Italic so i don't have to scroll too much, and even though i'll need glasses soon it almost never vanishes. Also try avoiding going all the way to the very bottom of the menu. Unless of course you go to "options" all the time then in that case just try going slower. that's all i came up with so far

:)

Re: Leaked OS: Blackberry Bold 9700 6.0.0.380

I can confirm the battery life is much better after 2 days of usage. Did a couple of phone calls yesterday evening and used the BB quite a lot. This morning, the battery is still at 80% while it would have been previously at 70%.
Sliding across days in calendar seems impossible on days with busy schedules. Feels like I should be doing something else than sliding the touchpad.... Very annoying
