proving ownership a stolen blackberry?

hello all. i had my blackberry stolen a couple of days ago, but i've found it in a second hand shop; the thief obviously sold it on. i've lost the receipt so i was wondering if there's any way that i can prove that it's my phone. i still have the box and all the peripherals that came with the phone. any help is greatly appreciated. cheers.

The box should have the IMEI number on it.
If it matches the IMEI on the device, that might be considered proof.

Your wireless provider should also have a record of the IMEI number of your device.

I would get the authorities involved right away. Don't try to handle this yourself.

Go to the police and file a report, take the box with you, have them contact your carrier and confirm you own the device with the imei number, then tell the officers you know where the phone is.

On the way to see the police stop at the shop and show them the ID of the phone on the box and say you are going to the police. Take someone with you as a witness.

Point out to them that having seen the ID if they sell on the phone they are knowingly selling on stolen goods.

Ask them to put the phone to one side till the police contact them.
